A selection of large-scale works by North Wales artist Joanne Thompson.
Joanne’s work concentrates on exploring the interface between memory and experience, relying on a personal sense of subject and working intuitively, Joanne allows her mixed media approach to evolve naturally. The work is only finished when her perception of the subject appears as a visual object.
“The paintings in this exhibition express childhood memories of hours spent learning domestic crafts at my grandmother’s house. On the surface, an idyllic time of pretty colours and textures but closer examination reveals my creative frustration of the confines of these repetitive processes and it’s anchor to female domesticity. Through the use of paint I endeavour to tentatively break free.”
