Celf Ceredigion Art

The summer of 2012 saw the inaugural and successful Ceredigion Art Trail (CAT) take place with approximately one hundred Ceredigion artists and crafts people opening their studio doors to the public amidst a programme of exhibitions and artist led workshops. This project was entirely independently funded by both individual artists and local businesses with visitor numbers in excess of 3,500.

As a follow-up project three local artists, Alison Lochhead, Mary Lloyd Jones and Grant Smaldon set up the organisation called Celf Ceredigion Art. These artists among many other local Ceredigion artists have been campaigning for nearly a decade to utilise empty spaces in Ceredigion for exhibition, studios and performance.

Celf Ceredigion Art was formed as a non profit making organisation committed to the development and promotion of contemporary art in its many and varied forms through the development of any space indoor or outdoor; and to enable people to view and engage with what is happening in the creative world and to enable art which is challenging and un-commercial.

The former Bangor Garage/Gas Showrooms was long identified as a wonderful building for exhibitions and creative events and after discussions with Ceredigion County Council they agreed to allow Celf Ceredigion Art to use the building and gave an initial 12 month licence agreement. This has had a further two extensions and currently Celf Ceredigion Art have a lease until end of September 2015. What started as a discussion about Pop Up spaces will have been a two and a half year project!
